Urban American Television Network launched as an over-the-air television network in the United States targeted towards the urban demographic. It originally began broadcasting December 3, 2001. Created and developed by Fred Hutton (among others) the early programming featured independently produced original films and older sitcoms and dramas, along with 1930s and 1940s public domain race films.
Programming was also syndicated in markets without Urban American Television Network stations, but most of its affiliate base was in densely populated metropolitan areas. Due to financing needs, Urban America Television suspended all operations on May 1, 2006, eventually hoping to return pending funding. In 2012, the company was acquired and relaunched as Urban Television Network Corp. (OTCMKT: URBT.)
Urban Television Network Corp. is engaged in providing television broadcasting and streaming services. The Company offers various programming that includes music, entertainment, news, and sports, as well as production services.
